Protect My Public Media

Federal funding for public media has been eliminated. WAMU now faces the loss of $1.5 million each year — about 4-5% of our budget.

This is more than a financial setback. It’s an explicit threat to the journalism that keeps us informed, holds power accountable, and connects Washingtonians to each other — and to the world.

But let me be clear: WAMU has stepped up to meet this challenge. We’re acting decisively and strategically to protect the work you rely on.

  • We’re focusing our resources on the reporting and storytelling that matter most.
  • We’re building new partnerships and exploring new funding sources to keep WAMU strong for the long term.
  • We’re ensuring WAMU continues to grow and evolve to serve this community — not just survive.

This is the simple truth about WAMU: all of us start and end every day knowing that we are able to do this work because of the faith and trust of people like you.

You’re part of a community that believes facts matter, that context matters, and that journalism has the power to bring us closer together. If WAMU has ever helped you feel more informed, connected, or empowered, now is the time to stand with us.

  • Keep listening and engaging with our coverage.
  • Tell friends and neighbors why WAMU matters to you — your voice can inspire others to join this community.
  • If you’re able, consider giving to support our important work.

We’ll keep you updated as we navigate these changes. Together, we can ensure WAMU remains a trusted, independent source of news and connection for our region — now and for generations to come.

Thank you for being part of this community.
